Jiri Toman Included in Distinguished Registry
Dr. Jiri Toman teaches courses in international law, international organization, comparative law and European Union law

SANTA CLARA, CA, May 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jiri Toman, Professor of Law at Santa Clara University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in international and humanitarian law.

With a background in organization and human rights, Dr. Toman has gained 40 years of professional experience, spending the last 12 years at Santa Clara University. As a child growing up in Czechoslovakia, he always had an interest in international relations and law. Now, as a professor of law, he teaches courses in international law, international organization, comparative law and European Union law, and conducts advanced seminars for law students. He has also published numerous studies and previously taught at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.

Becoming a college graduate in 1956, Dr. Toman first earned a diploma in international legal studies (1961) followed by a Doctor of Laws (JUDR - Juris Utriusque Doctor) in 1966 from Charles University's School of Law. In 1964 he received the diploma of comparative law from the International University of Comparative Sciences in Luxembourg. In 1980, he also earned a Ph.D. in international law, relations and economics from The Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva.

Dr. Toman is a member of The American Society of International Law and several other professional associations. He has been a foreign member and academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences since 1994. From 1969 to 1998 he was director of research and director of the Henry Dunant Institute, the research, training and publication center of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. He also closely collaborated with several international organizations, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Center for Human Rights, the United Nations Disaster Relief Coordinator (where he was working on the Convention on Expediting the Delivery of Emergency Relief - A/39/267/Add.2). He also worked very closely with the Council of Europe on the reform of the judicial system in Central and Eastern Europe. He continues to work with UNESCO on issues relating to the protection of cultural property. Dr. Toman has also taught as visiting scholar in many universities in the world (Harvard, Yale, George Washington University, Cambridge, Oxford, Uppsala). He is author of several books and articles.
