Deborah Yolanda Davis Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Education
Ms. Deborah Davis has been named a VIP Member for 2011-2012
SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, NY, November 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deborah Y. Davis, Adjunct Professor at The City University of New York, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
With eight years of experience as an adjunct professor at The City University of New York, Ms. Davis has expertise in literacy, reading, writing and speaking. She has demonstrated her versatility by working in three different academic departments and teaching a variety of courses. These include language and literacy, beginning special education, ESL education, introductory reading, reading courses in early childhood and secondary education, and interdisciplinary reading. Ms. Davis developed a two-semester course, which is now referred to as 551 and 550, at Queens College. She also taught the language and literacy course in the education and community department, and has participated in writing and readers' workshops.
Ms. Davis attributes her success to her hard work in school and having great mentors and principals. She recalls Dr. Marcia Knoll, who was her first principal and was top-notch. It was Mrs. Athena Galitis, the last principal, who pushed her to go ahead in her career. Nevertheless, Ms. Davis says that she never intended to become an educator; as there were many teachers in her family, she wanted to go in a different direction. However, after working as a retail buyer, she realized that she could make a difference by going into education. She has never regretted her decision. She initially worked as a kindergarten teacher in Forest Hills, Queens, and has since taught at every level, with the exception of high school.
Ms. Davis earned a master's degree in reading from Adelphi University in 1990, having previously received a Bachelor of Science in education from St. John's University. In addition, she holds a certification in school administration and supervision from Queens College. In the future, she intends to become involved with sickle cell disease awareness efforts.
