Joseph Faiella Tommasino, Ph.D. Distinguished as a VIP of the Year for Excellence in Clinical and Academic Medicine
Dr. Joseph F. Tommasino has directed the physician assistant program at Touro College since 1998
SHOREHAM, NY, October 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph Tommasino, Ph.D., Chairman of the Physician Assistant Program at Touro College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in clinical and academic medicine.
As a medical professional with more than three decades of experience, Dr. Tommasino specializes in cardiology and preventive care. Since 1998, he has directed the physician assistant program at Touro College in Bay Shore, N.Y. His position entails both academic and administrative responsibilities. He is tasked with overseeing 190 students practicing clinical education, directing the full-time faculty, staff and 80 adjunct instructors, following the $6 million budget, and providing strategic business development for the program. For the past two years, Dr. Tommasino has also served as an exercise physiologist, research associate, and physician assistant at Farmingdale Heart Center in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Furthermore, Dr. Tommasino is a lieutenant colonel in the Medical Specialist Corps, U.S. Army Reserve. Currently assigned to Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, N.Y., his responsibilities include supervising and training army medical specialists and overseeing all troop care. He was previously on active duty as a medical specialist with the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. Dr. Tommasino has held multiple leadership positions with the New York State Society of Physician Assistants and is serving a term as president of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology from July 2011 to July 2012.
In recognition of his work, Dr. Tommasino was recently named a VIP of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional goals. Dr. Tommasino attributes his success to his father, who was his mentor and taught him the value of working hard.
Dr. Tommasino earned a Ph.D. in health sciences from the City University of Los Angeles in 1999. He previously received a Master of Health Science and Bachelor of Health Science from Long Island University; he also completed the school's physician assistant program. In addition, he completed the physician assistant postresidency program at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center. He is certified in, and certified to instruct, advanced cardiac life support and advanced trauma life support. In the future, Dr. Tommasino plans to continue his professional growth in clinical and academic medicine while fully utilizing his experience as a physician assistant in education, medicine and surgery.
