Vermeil Blanding Named to Exclusive Membership Organization
Vermeil Blanding is a member of the International Reading Association and the Modern Language Association

BRONX, NY, September 9, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Vermeil Blanding, Lecturer at Hostos Community College, CUNY has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education and instruction.

For more than 35 years, Ms. Blanding has served as a lecturer in the English Department at Hostos Community College CUNY. In her position, she teaches general and accelerated courses in developmental reading, writing, Expository Writing, as well as Literature of the Black-American. She manages course levels for the English department, where she reviews syllabi, conducts meetings and contributes to course development. Ms. Blanding also prepared social science test questions, for one City University of New York project - At Home in College. She has served in the capacity of faculty advisor to the At Home in College project. For the past year she has been serving as Chief Reader for Hostos Community College. In that capacity she is responsible for student appeals of university writing exams, and serving as liaison for her college with CUNY Office of Assessment.

A graduate of Columbia University, Teacher's College, Ms. Blanding received a Master of Arts for Teacher of English, a Master of Education with a specialization in Reading. She is a member of the American Association of University Professors, the International Reading Association and the Modern Language Association. She is an active supporter of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, at the New York Public Library. The four-time recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant, Ms. Blanding intends to continue to teach as an adjunct professor after retirement. Currently, she continues to teach full time and is developing a hybrid developmental reading course, which she expects to teach in fall 2010. Ms. Blanding maintains subscriptions to several New York Theaters, The Wildlife Conservation Society, The Museum of Modern Art, The New York Botanical Garden, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Natural History. She has an ongoing interest in course development and computer technology recognizing the need to integrate both into a successful teaching philosophy.

Holding high academic standards, Hostos Community College offers students a myriad of support services. The school is proud of its Global Scholars Program, Which gives students the opportunity to study international affairs at Columbia University.
