PEMBROKE PINES, FL, August 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Luz S. Porter, Founding Director of Florida International University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
Dr. Porter has 40 years of overall professional experience, and has been with Florida International University for 20 years. Her responsibilities include directing the Master of Science in Nursing and Ph.D. in nursing programs. She received the Distinguished Service Award, the Professor Excellence Award, and the Outstanding Alumni Award, from the university. Prior to her current position, she worked as a professor at West Virginia University.
In 1967, Dr. Porter received her Ph.D. in Nursing from New York University. She received her Master of Science in Nursing in 1967 from the University of California. An advanced registered nurse practitioner, she became a registered nurse in the Philippines, and is a certified family nurse practitioner in the State of Florida.
A fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Dr. Porter is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International. She is affiliated with The American Nurses Association, the Association of Camp Nurses, the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations, and the Philippine Nurses Association.
