Almeta Milow, RN, BSN, MSN, Discusses Nursing Education
Almeta Milow, RN, BSN, MSN is a scholar, public speaker and impassioned educator

FLINT, MI, February 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --"Before joining Mott [Community College], I worked as a staff nurse, staff educator and patient educator. I also worked in management and as a clinical nurse specialist." So conveyed Almeta Milow during a candid sit-down interview with Cambridge Who's Who Publishing. A recognizable presence in the nursing field, Milow's career has consisted of a number of professional positions, perhaps none more important than in her role as an educator. For over two decades, she has served as a nursing instructor, having taught undergraduate students at the University of Michigan-Flint and now at Mott Community College, where she teaches first- and second-year students enrolled in associate degree programs. Milow also serves as an advisor for the students at Mott in an effort to help them choose appropriate courses and provide career guidance.

Milow, who holds a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Eastern Michigan University, is renowned for her thesis paper, "Predictors for Success on the National Council Licensure Examination for Students in Associate Degree Nursing Education." Copyrighted and published in 2005, the thesis has proved to be an invaluable resource for educational institutions that have implemented nursing programs. Comments Milow, "It identified some selected variables of those students who were successful on the NCLEX on the first attempt. Findings from the research revealed differences between those students who passed and those who failed the certification exam."

Over the course of her 32-year career, Milow has participated in a number of public speaking engagements; the topics have included policies, procedures and guidelines, building a professional image and antepartum testing. Milow maintains affiliation with a number of the high-profile organizations including the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International and the International Childbirth Education Association.

Milow is a scholar, public speaker and writer, but above all else, she identifies herself as an impassioned educator. For those wishing to pursue a career in nursing, she offers the following advice: "Always be a team player and bring passion and caring to the bedside, because this will encourage patients to be more willing to improve their health status." She also notes that there is a direct link between her own success and the success of her students. "My greatest accomplishment as an educator is successful students. This is demonstrated when I return to the healthcare setting with new students and I see [former] students whose lives I've touched - still smiling and happy that they chose nursing as their career," she says.

In addition to her graduate degree, Milow holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Madonna University. She is also a certified childbirth educator. Her honors include the Jeanette Junte Education Award as well as distinction as Cambridge Publishing's Professional of the Year. More recently, she was selected from over 400,000 executives, professionals and entrepreneurs for inclusion in the "Top 101 Industry Experts" book. Milow resides in Flint and enjoys traveling, exercising and spending time with her family out of state.
