Antolina Floramar Valdez Caluya Butalid, for three decades, strove to make a difference in the lives of the disenfranchised

NORTHFIELD, OH, November 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Antolina Floramar Valdez Caluya Butalid, a retired Social Worker and Professional Counselor from Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare, Ohio Department of Mental Health, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in mental health care.

A veteran counselor and social worker, Antolina Floramar Valdez Caluya Butalid is proud to have served in the public sector for more than three decades. She concluded her career at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare, Ohio Department of Mental Health, where she specialized in counseling the mentally ill and providing support to their families. As a mental health practitioner, Ms. Butalid strove to make a difference in the lives of disenfranchised populations, particularly the mentally ill, the disabled and the poor. For her contributions, she was honored with a Humanitarian of the Year Award by Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare and an Outstanding Professional Award by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Ms. Butalid hails from a family of educators, health care practitioners and public servants; her late father was a civil and mining engineer from the University of California, Berkeley, her mother was a registered nurse from the University of the Philippines, and her siblings are a retired teacher, a retired surgeon, a preschool administrator, a registered nurse and a Roman Catholic priest. She is happy to add to her family's legacy of service, and attributes the successes that she has enjoyed in her career to her faith in God and earnest desire to help others.

Originally from the Philippines, Ms. Butalid taught as a professor in several educational institutions in her homeland prior to coming to the United States. These include St. Mary's College, Osmeña Colleges, Masbate Colleges, and the Aquinas University of Legazpi. She obtained her master of arts in education in 1972 from the University of Hawaii and her bachelor of science in psychology in 1960 from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, from which she graduated magna cum laude.

Though retired, Ms. Butalid maintains active affiliation in the Diocese of Cleveland and the American Foundation to Aid the Poor. She looks forward to experiencing the wonderful possibilities and challenges that the gift of retirement brings. She is a proud grandmother to Emily Grace, Abigail Elizabeth, Delia Michelle and Maya Ann.
