Dr. Robert Edelman Recognized for Excellence in Clinical Research and Vaccine Development
Dr. Robert Edelman is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science

BALTIMORE, MD, October 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Robert Edelman, Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in clinical research.

With 48 years of professional experience, Dr. Edelman has been employed by the University of Maryland School of Medicine for the past 22 years. He serves as a professor of medicine and pediatrics, and consults with major pharmaceutical houses on vaccine developments. He currently works as the associate director for clinical research at the school's Center for Vaccine Development. He directs the Traveler's Health Clinic, University of Maryland Medical Center. He has been the Chairman of the University of Maryland Institutional Review Board for all human research for the past nine years.

In the past, he has performed vaccine development consulting for the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, the United States Department of Defense, the United States Agency for International Development, and the Pediatric Dengue Vaccine Initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Additionally, Dr. Edelman has been involved with several United States Army assignments; he investigated the pathogenesis and epidemiology of arbovirus infections, and the relationship between malnutrition and immunity. He performed phase one clinical trials of vaccines against the bioterrorism agents, Tularemia and the Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus.

The recipient of an MD from Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Edelman completed medical training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed an NIH fellowship at the Department of Preventative Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He maintains affiliations with the International Society of Travel Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Research, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
